The Insurrection of Nat Turner, 1831
The Lynchburg Virginian describes the insurrection led by "fanatic preacher" Nat Turner. The event would later be recognized as the first slave rebellion in U.S. history. Though the uprising had ended at the time this article was published, Turner had not yet been captured.
