Three decades after the Watergate scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon, the secret source known as "Deep Throat" ended everyone's guessing games and revealed himself to be W. Mark Felt, former associate director and second highest-ranking member of the FBI. Under this pseudonym, Felt gave Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein confirmation, guidance and context for their stories in the early 1970s on the White House involvement in the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters and its cover-up. The information helped lead to impeachment charges against Nixon and his resignation in 1974.
