Union Newspaper Faces Paper Shortages, 1863
This issue of the Union newspaper Stars and Stripes, printed on wallpaper in Jacksonport, was the first to be published in Arkansas. An assistant surgeon in the Union Army served as editor. Printers used wallpaper and other unusual materials when newsprint became scarce during the war.
